Boeing and Nvidia have become part of a new agreement between the U.S. and China
During his visit to China, U.S. President Donald Trump announced new agreements between Washington and Beijing. These involve two major deals: the purchase of American Boeing aircraft and permission to sell China’s powerful Nvidia chips for artificial intelligence. This was reported by Reuters.
According to Trump, China agreed to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft from the U.S. However, the market had expected a much larger deal, so the company’s stock fell by nearly 4% following the announcement. Earlier, Reuters, citing sources, reported that during preparations for the summit, the parties discussed the purchase of up to 500 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, as well as wide-body airliners for international flights.
In the end, the contract turned out to be much more modest.
So far, the parties have not specified exactly which aircraft models China will purchase or when deliveries will begin. It is known only that the deal is part of a broader trade compromise between Washington and Beijing. Reuters reports that the agreements also include a softening of U.S. tariff policy and stable supplies of rare-earth metals from China.
At the same time, the parties reached an agreement regarding the technology sector. The U.S. has officially authorized the sale of powerful Nvidia H200 chips to Chinese companies—these are among the most powerful processors for artificial intelligence systems.
Access to these technologies will be granted to the largest Chinese companies, including:
Alibaba
Tencent
ByteDance
JD.com
Lenovo
Foxconn
For Nvidia, the Chinese market remains one of the most important in the world. The company’s CEO, Jensen Huang, personally participated in the negotiations. Reuters notes that he was not even on the White House’s official delegation list at first. But later, Donald Trump himself invited Huang to join the trip to China.
For American tech companies, this decision could mean regaining access to part of the vast Chinese market, which has been restricted in recent years due to the trade war between the U.S. and China. At the same time, Washington continues to raise concerns about the risks associated with the development of Chinese artificial intelligence and technological competition between the two countries.
Despite this, the current agreements show that the US and China are attempting to at least partially stabilize economic relations after several years of intense confrontation.
As a reminder, China agreed to purchase 200 aircraft from the American company Boeing. U.S. President Donald Trump announced this, calling the deal a major victory for the American aircraft manufacturer.
Boeing unveiled the first prototype of its new 777-8F cargo aircraft from a hangar at its plant in Everett. This model, whose construction began last summer, is set to become the new benchmark for range and fuel efficiency in its class.
