The State Bureau of Investigation has notified an Azov fighter that he is under suspicion in connection with the death of a fellow soldier in captivity
The State Bureau of Investigations has notified a soldier from the “Azov” Regiment, who was released from Russian captivity, that he is under suspicion. According to investigators, he collaborated with the administration of a Russian penal colony, which may have led to the death of the unit’s chief medical officer.
According to investigators, after being taken prisoner in 2022, the soldier voluntarily expressed a desire to join the Russian private military company “Wagner.” He did not have time to carry out this plan, as he was returned to Ukraine during a prisoner exchange.
Investigators claim that in order to secure favorable treatment from the prison administration, the suspect provided the Russians with information about Ukrainian prisoners of war. In particular, he disclosed information about the head of the Azov medical service; according to the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR), the officer was subsequently subjected to systematic torture, which led to his death.
The suspect is charged with acts harmful to other prisoners of war, aiding and abetting torture, and attempted collaboration. The court ordered him to be held in pretrial detention without the right to bail.
According to the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
