Eleven babies were born at the Kyiv Perinatal Center during a nighttime attack
Despite a massive Russian attack on the capital on the night of July 2, 11 babies were born at the Kyiv Perinatal Center, including one set of twins. The facility’s medical staff quickly moved the mothers to a bomb shelter, ensuring the safety of both the mothers and the newborns.
In particular, amid the explosions, a baby boy named Demyan was born in the makeshift delivery room inside the shelter; his natural birth was attended by obstetrician-gynecologist Violeta Cherneha. The doctor noted that the patient had received pain relief before the alarm went off, and thanks to clear internal protocols, the medical team worked seamlessly to transport the woman underground.
According to Vladislav Yavir, the doctor on duty at the center’s branch on Valeriy Lobanovskyi Avenue, during an air threat, all staff and patients are moved to a safe zone, where ambulances continue to arrive. The shelters at both branches of the Kyiv medical facility are equipped not only with delivery rooms but also with fully functional operating rooms, beds for women, incubators for infants requiring special care, and spaces for accompanying persons. Medical staff emphasize that they are prepared for such challenges on a daily basis and ensure stable operations even under crisis conditions.
