Tusk voluntarily waived his immunity in connection with a defamation lawsuit

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk voluntarily waived his parliamentary immunity in connection with defamation charges brought against him by the “Institute of Sovereign Poland,” led by former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro.

The conflict erupted after Tusk disclosed information from the Internal Security Agency during a government meeting in early April. According to the intelligence agency’s materials, in late 2025, on the eve of the vote on the cryptocurrency market bill, Przemysław Król, the head of the Zondacrypto cryptocurrency exchange, transferred 450,000 zlotys to the “Institute of Sovereign Poland” fund” and approximately 300,000 zlotys to the “Good Government” foundation, headed by Przemysław Wipler, a member of parliament from the “Confederation” party.

In response, representatives of the Ziobro Institute called the prime minister’s statement a lie and filed a lawsuit demanding that the prime minister’s immunity be lifted. Government spokesperson Adam Szlapka confirmed Tusk’s readiness for a court hearing and noted that the facts regarding funding from entities linked to Zondacrypto are evident, as is the activity of these entities in blocking legislative measures. Currently, the prime minister’s statement waiving his immunity must be formally approved by the Sejm’s Rules Committee, after which the case will be heard in court.

This is reported by Wirtualna Polska.

Former Polish Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro was able to secretly travel to the United States with the direct assistance of the U.S. State Department.

In the U.S., Democrats in the House of Representatives are demanding an explanation from the State Department regarding possible assistance in expediting a visa for former Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, who is linked to criminal proceedings in Warsaw.
