The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating more than 3,000 crimes against national security since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion
As of June 2026, the State Bureau of Investigations is handling 3,032 criminal cases involving crimes against the foundations of Ukraine’s national security. Bureau staff are systematically documenting cases of treason, collaboration, and aiding the aggressor state throughout the country, including in de-occupied communities and frontline regions.
Evidence is also being gathered regarding suspects currently in hiding in Russia or in temporarily occupied territories, with the aim of subsequently bringing them to criminal justice in absentia.
The lion’s share of criminal cases investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) consists of proceedings for treason—2,012 cases. Another 806 proceedings have been opened for collaboration, 54 cases concern direct aiding of the aggressor state, and the remainder cover other related articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Based on the evidence gathered, law enforcement officials have officially notified 1,698 individuals of their status as suspects. In addition, 536 suspects are currently wanted, another 1,346 individuals are undergoing operational checks for involvement in collaboration with the enemy, and 1,489 indictments have already been fully investigated and sent to court for final sentencing.
Among the Bureau’s most recent high-profile cases is a court verdict in Kherson, where, based on SBI evidence, a local resident received a 12-year prison sentence for voluntarily assisting the occupying authorities during the city’s seizure. The case of a former high-ranking law enforcement official from the Zaporizhzhia region, who betrayed his oath and took a position in the enemy’s occupation structures, was also successfully referred to court. In the Chernihiv region, Bureau officers tracked down and promptly detained a defector who, in the early months of the full-scale war, actively helped Russian looters plunder civilian stores.
This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation.
Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine prevented another terrorist attack in Kharkiv by detaining a married couple of Russian agents who were preparing an explosion in the city center.
As a reminder, the SBU detained a Russian strike coordinator in Chernivtsi.
The SBU also exposed a Russian spy network that was planning terrorist attacks using teenagers.
