The State Border Guard Service has identified the border sections most frequently crossed by violators

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has recorded the highest number of attempts to cross the border illegally along the Romanian and Moldovan borders.

This was announced by the agency’s spokesperson, Andriy Demchenko, during a briefing at Ukrinform. According to him, while figures for these sectors were previously nearly identical, since last year the sector along the border with Romania has led in the number of detentions.

Since the beginning of 2026, border guards have detained over 500 violators and exposed 40 criminal groups that organized illegal human smuggling schemes. The cost of such services ranges on average from $5,000 to $12,000, and the organizers are often located outside the country or in other regions, coordinating their activities via social media. The heaviest burden falls on the Romanian section of the border, which stretches over 600 kilometers.

The State Border Guard Service emphasizes that criminal groups are operating throughout Ukraine, seeking individuals willing to cross the border remotely. The situation at the borders with Russia and Belarus remains under control, though different security measures are in place there due to full-scale aggression. Border guards continue to strengthen controls in the southern and western sectors to prevent new attempts to breach the state border.

In Kyiv and Zakarpattia, law enforcement uncovered a scheme to illegally smuggle men subject to military conscription across the border. The cost of the “service” was 170,000 UAH per person.
