The EU has approved sanctions against Israeli settlers
On Monday, EU foreign ministers formally approved the imposition of sanctions against Israeli settlers over attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank.
This was announced by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on social media platform X.
This came after Hungary’s government changed and the country lifted its months-long veto.
"EU foreign ministers have just given the green light to impose sanctions against Israeli settlers for violence against Palestinians," wrote EU foreign policy chief Kaia Kallas after the conclusion of the Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels.
“They also agreed on new sanctions against senior Hamas figures. It is time to break the deadlock and take action. Extremism and violence have consequences,” Kallas added.
The sanctions target individuals involved in violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, though several member states are already pushing for tougher measures.
Russia has no right to appoint a negotiator on behalf of the EU — Kallas.
One of the European Union’s demands in the event of potential negotiations with Russia should be the withdrawal of Russian military forces from Transnistria.
