Honduras Supports Ukraine: President's Visit to Kyiv

Honduran President Nasri Asfour paid an official visit to Kyiv, during which he held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and spoke at a joint press conference, where he outlined his country’s position on supporting Ukraine and potential areas of cooperation.

Asfura emphasized that his visit is not only political but also symbolic, since, in his words, Ukraine has today become one of the leading examples of the defense of democratic values in the world. “It is essential for me to be here in Ukraine to support democracy, freedom, and your efforts and your faith in these ideals. On behalf of the great people of Honduras, we would like to strengthen these achievements, because the people of Honduras also believe in democracy and freedom. These bonds of friendship unite us,” said Nasri Asfura.

Separately, the Honduran president emphasized that he considers Ukrainians to be people who demonstrate strength and resilience every day amid the difficult conditions of war, and that is why, in his words, every citizen of Ukraine is a hero who defends not only their country but also the fundamental principles of freedom and democracy.

Asfura also expressed Honduras’ interest in Ukrainian technologies, particularly in the agricultural sector and the field of unmanned systems, noting that both countries can benefit mutually from exchanging expertise and developing joint projects. “We are interested in Ukrainian technologies, all the expertise Ukraine has in the fields of agriculture and drone manufacturing—all the technologies that could be useful to us in Honduras,” he noted.

During the visit, a statement was also made regarding future international contacts, specifically regarding the upcoming meeting between the President of Honduras and Pope Leo XIV, during which he plans to share his impressions of his stay in Ukraine and the situation in the country during the war.

In Kyiv, this visit is seen as yet another sign of growing international support and attention toward Ukraine from Latin American countries, as well as a potential step toward developing economic and technological cooperation between the nations. He made these remarks at a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.

A shooting occurred near the White House; the attacker was shot and killed by Secret Service agents

Prior to this, on May 18, a shooting occurred at the San Diego Islamic Center, the largest mosque in the county, resulting in fatalities. The incident also ended with the deaths of the attackers. Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident and the motives behind the shooting. The scene of the incident is under heavy police surveillance.
