The leader of a pro-Russian party in Moldova was caught engaging in illegal financing
Alexei Lungu, leader of the “Chance” party, has been charged in a case involving the illegal financing of political parties and violations of laws governing the use of party funds.
The politician, whose party is linked to fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor, faces 6 to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to 400,000 Moldovan lei, and a ban on holding certain public offices for up to 10 years.
In July, the Moldovan Court of Appeals ruled to dissolve four successor parties to the banned pro-Russian “Shor” party, including “Chance.” Ilan Shor, who was convicted in Moldova, and his associates are currently in hiding in Russia.

The Russian Federation is urgently stepping up its activities in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova—the so-called “Transnistrian Moldovan Republic”—to force Ukraine to redirect some of its resources toward countering the growing threat from the Russian enclave.
Moldovan Defense Minister Anatolie Nosati stated that reports of a possible increase in Russian activity in the Transnistrian region are unfounded.
