The Ministry of Defense has updated the rules for training conscripts
The Ministry of Defense has announced the introduction of new training regulations for mobilized personnel in Ukraine. The updated training system involves a different approach to the training process, which, according to the ministry, will be unfamiliar to new recruits. Army training centers have implemented a new Basic Military Training (BMT) program. It emphasizes operations within small tactical groups and countering enemy drones.
This was reported with reference to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Key changes in the training
program According to the Ministry of Defense, the updated BGT standard was developed based on the combat experience of the 151st Training Center to adapt the training system to the conditions of modern warfare. Currently, the new program has been implemented in six training centers.
The duration of training remains standard—recruits undergo training for 51 days. The list of exercises has also remained largely unchanged, but the teaching methodology has been fundamentally revised—following the principle of “from simple to complex.”
Key innovations in training:
Firearms training—exercises are repeated regularly with gradually increasing difficulty to drill skills until they become second nature.
Tactical training—the focus has shifted to practicing coordinated actions within small tactical groups.
Medical training—12 training hours have been added to tactical pre-hospital care through the optimization of outdated program elements.
Counter-drone operations – special attention is given to countering small UAVs. In particular, recruits practice engaging FPV drones using “lasertag” systems with two-way simulated fire.
In addition, mentoring has become an important element of training—each platoon is assigned a commander and an instructor who accompany the cadets at all stages.
Pre-service training
A unique innovation of the program is the introduction of optional advanced training through an in-depth individual study course.
Recruits have the opportunity to voluntarily master the most in-demand specializations on the front lines:
rifleman-operator
rifleman-rescuer
small tactical group commander
Not all mobilized personnel will undergo this training, but only those who have shown aptitude, passed preliminary selection, demonstrated the best results in individual training sessions, and exhibited high motivation.
According to internal surveys by the Army, the first graduates rated their proficiency in all training subjects as sufficient or high.
Reform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Personnel Training
A large-scale army reform will begin in Ukraine in June 2026, which will involve significant changes in the provision and staffing of troops. In particular, the Ukrainian government has announced a substantial increase in pay for both support roles and combat positions.
In addition, as part of the reform of the Armed Forces, the introduction of special contracts for infantrymen with cash bonuses ranging from 250,000 to 400,000 hryvnias is planned.
The Ministry of Defense is launching a program to strike at the logistics of the Russian army — Fedorov.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine struck Russian command posts and logistics in the temporarily occupied territories.
Ukrainian drones struck S-300 air defense systems and Russian warehouses in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
SBU drones struck an oil pumping station near Moscow.
