The Russian Foreign Ministry has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Iran

UA NEWS 23 March 2026 19:35
The Russian Foreign Ministry has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Iran

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, stressed the urgent need to immediately cease hostilities.

AlJazeera reports this.

The foreign ministry of the aggressor country emphasized the need to transition to a political and diplomatic resolution of the conflict. Both officials expressed concern over the possible spread of the conflict to the Caspian Sea region.

During the conversation, Lavrov stressed the unacceptability of strikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. This statement echoes the position of Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, who previously called the U.S. and Israeli attacks near the Bushehr nuclear power plant extremely dangerous. The Russian side continues to insist on avoiding actions that could lead to further escalation and pose a threat to nuclear facilities in the region.

It is worth noting that the U.S. and Israel have different objectives in the war with Iran.

Israel also bombed a port from which Iran was supplying weapons to Russia.
