A scheme to flee the country using a volunteer minibus was uncovered in Bukovina
At the border with Moldova, border guards foiled an attempt to illegally smuggle two men out of Ukraine under the guise of a volunteer trip.
This was reported by the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
According to the agency, the organizer of the scheme found people willing to leave the country through one of the messaging apps. A volunteer minibus was used to transport them to the border zone, and a cover story about a volunteer mission was fabricated to disguise the operation.
During an inspection of the vehicle, officers from the Chernivtsi Border Guard Detachment determined that two residents of the Poltava region intended to cross the border illegally.
According to border guards, each of the men paid $10,000 to organize their departure.
Law enforcement officials are currently trying to locate the organizer of the scheme and other possible participants in the operation.
Earlier, law enforcement agencies announced that a member of the Kharkiv City Council was under suspicion of organizing the illegal smuggling of men of draft age across Ukraine’s state border.
