The Ministry of Defense approved 175 new weapons systems in May 2026

In May 2026, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine officially certified and approved for service in the Armed Forces 175 new models of weapons and military equipment. The vast majority of these new items—nearly 93%—are the result of the work of Ukrainian designers and manufacturers.

This figure demonstrates the rapid development and high level of autonomy of the domestic defense-industrial complex (DIC), according to the Ministry of Defense.

All approved models in three key defense categories (drones, ammunition, and armored vehicles) were entirely designed and manufactured by Ukrainian arms manufacturers. The lion’s share of the new additions consists of high-tech weapons that directly influence the tactical situation on the front lines:

  • Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS): nearly 60 models have been added to the military’s arsenal. Among the landmark domestic developments, the “Tin,” “Tur,” “Mamba,” “Paliy,” “D’Artagnan,” and “Lupinis” systems have been approved for service, as well as the effective “Shahed” interceptor drone known as “Shvidun.”

  • Ammunition: The range of munitions has expanded by more than 40 new types of rounds.

  • Armored vehicles: 18 new models of equipment were approved to enhance the mobility and protection of personnel during missions.

In parallel with strike systems, the defense ministry has devoted significant attention to logistical and technological support for the front lines. A key step was the introduction of modern electronic warfare and electronic reconnaissance (EW/ER) systems designed to neutralize enemy drones, as well as the latest FIM-92 Stinger simulator, which uses laser technology to train mobile fire teams in countering attack UAVs.

A separate priority has been the expansion of the fleet of ground-based robotic systems (GRS). The Ukrainian military has been provided with remote-controlled platforms such as the “Gnom,” “Primar-Killer,” Vepr, “Plyushch+,” and Ratel X. These robotic systems are capable of performing combat, reconnaissance, mine-laying, and evacuation missions directly in the line of fire, minimizing risks to personnel. Rounding out the list of May’s new additions are specialized vehicles, the latest engineering equipment, and modern rear-area technology designed to significantly improve logistical processes at the front.

Prior to this, the Ministry of Defense certified and authorized the domestic unmanned aerial system “Volynaka” for use by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine approved the Shablya MK19(M) remotely controlled combat module for use by the troops. It is equipped with an MK19 40mm automatic grenade launcher.
