Two Fatal Accidents on the Water in Lviv Region in a Single Day

In Novoyavorivsk, Lviv Oblast, a 14-year-old boy drowned while swimming in Lake Pishchane; divers found his body at a depth of 11 meters after several hours of searching. On the same day, another drowning was reported in the region—a 28-year-old man died in Brody. Law enforcement officials are investigating the circumstances of both tragedies.

A tragic evening in Lviv Oblast ended with two deaths in bodies of water, which occurred under different circumstances but with the same fatal outcome, serving as yet another reminder of the dangers of summer recreation near water without proper supervision and adherence to basic safety rules. In Novoyavorivsk, a 14-year-old boy born in 2012 went missing while swimming in Lake Pishchane on June 25 at approximately 7:05 p.m., after which rescuers were called to the scene and launched a search operation involving divers, according to the State Emergency Service and the Civil Protection Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration.

The search lasted more than two hours, and at around 9:20 p.m., divers from the Lviv Central Rescue and Diving Service discovered the child’s body at a depth of approximately 11 meters, roughly 10 meters from the shore, after which it was brought to the surface and handed over to law enforcement officials. The agencies emphasize that the police are currently investigating all the circumstances of the tragedy, including how the child ended up in the water and whether any adults were nearby, while rescue workers are once again urging parents not to leave children unattended near bodies of water, even in places that seem safe.

Separately, on the same day in Brody on Naberezhna Street, the body of a 28-year-old local resident was found in a lake approximately 20 meters from the shore; it was also retrieved by divers and handed over to the police. The cause of death is under investigation.

Law enforcement officials are investigating all possible scenarios regarding both incidents, while experts remind the public that the summer heat increases the number of water-related accidents every year, especially in areas where people ignore warnings or swim in unregulated locations. This was reported by the State Emergency Service and the Civil Protection Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration.

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigations have completed a pre-trial investigation into a customs inspector, a border guard inspector, and their accomplice, who are accused of organizing the illegal smuggling of men of draft age abroad using other people’s passports.
