A train collided with a mobile crane in the Lviv region, resulting in the death of the train operator
On the morning of May 1, an accident occurred at a railroad crossing in the Lviv region—a mobile crane drove onto the tracks and collided with a train. The impact caused the locomotive to derail. The train engineer was killed in the incident. It is known that he was a veteran.

The accident occurred around 6:20 a.m. at a railroad crossing near the village of Lyubyntsi in the Stryi district. A mobile crane collided with the locomotive of Train No. 26, "Kyiv-Uzhhorod." As a result, the locomotive derailed. The locomotive engineer died at the scene; the crane operator and the assistant engineer were also injured.
Ukrzaliznytsia Board Chairman Oleksandr Pertsovskyi noted that the crane operator drove onto the railroad crossing despite the warning signals being active.
"The consequences are tragic. Our engineer died. There were doctors on the train who tried to save him, but, unfortunately, there was no chance. The assistant engineer and the crane operator are in the hospital. We are quickly moving the train away so it can continue its journey… Fortunately, none of the passengers or train crew were injured,” Oleksandr Pertsovskyi wrote on his Facebook page.
According to him, the deceased engineer was a veteran. The man had returned from the front and worked on the railroad.
Alina Podreiko, a spokesperson for the Lviv Regional Police, told Suspilne that law enforcement officers are currently working at the scene. More information will be released later.
The Lviv Regional Police Facebook page clarified that the accident occurred at a railroad crossing in the village of Hirne, Stryi District. A 64-year-old resident of Drohobych was driving the KrAZ truck. The deceased’s personal details are being verified. No requests for medical assistance were reported among the train passengers.
Law enforcement officials are investigating all circumstances of the incident, and the legal classification of the case is being determined.
