A total of 287 candidates have already been nominated for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize
A total of 208 individuals and 79 organizations are in the running for this year’s Peace Prize. Christian Berg Harpviken, Secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, noted that the list of nominees has changed significantly compared to last year, underscoring the relevance of the award in times of global conflict.
Reuters reports this, noting that the official list of nominees will remain confidential for the next 50 years.
Among the likely candidates mentioned by the media and bookmakers are Yulia Navalnaya, Pope Leo XIV, and the volunteer organization Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs), which operates in Sudan. There is also discussion of a possible nomination of U.S. President Donald Trump, whose support has previously been declared by the leaders of Cambodia, Israel, and Pakistan. However, the Nobel Committee traditionally refrains from confirming or denying the names of specific individuals until the results are announced.
The winner’s name will be announced on October 9, and the award ceremony in Oslo is scheduled for December 10. Harpvik, who took over as secretary-general in January 2025, emphasized that despite pressures on international cooperation, many initiatives worthy of high recognition continue to emerge around the world. The Committee continues to analyze the achievements of all nominees to select the individual who has made the greatest contribution to strengthening peace amid Russian aggression in Europe and tensions in the Middle East.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, together with the people of Ukraine, has been nominated for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
Earlier, the White House criticizedthe Nobel Committee for not awarding the Peace Prize to Trump.
