Polish lawmakers are calling for the European Parliament to adopt a resolution on the UPA

Polish lawmakers are calling for the European Parliament to adopt a resolution on the UPA

Piotr Müller, a Member of the European Parliament from the Polish opposition party “Law and Justice” (PiS), announced that his political group had officially submitted a proposal to hold a debate and adopt a resolution commemoratingthe victims of the Volhynia tragedy, which Poland officially classifies as “genocide committed by the UPA.”

According to Müller, this move was a response to recent actions by the President of Ukraine, which, in the opinion of the Polish side, constituted “yet another step undermining Polish-Ukrainian relations.” The MEP emphasized that this position of the official Kyiv administration is evidence of a deliberate course of action by the Ukrainian authorities, something representatives of the “Law and Justice” party had warned about earlier.

Piotr Müller called on Poland’s entire political elite to present a united front and demonstrate a firm and resolute policy toward Ukraine, one based on the principle of “helping, but also demanding.” He also added that stable European relations must be based exclusively on historical truth, and Ukrainian leaders must realize that their current course of action is detrimental to the long-term interests of their own country on the international stage.

The politician made this statement on his page on the social media platform X.

As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent the Order of the White Eagle to Poland via “Nova Poshta.”

The decision to revoke Poland’s highest state award, the Order of the White Eagle, from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not a unilateral act by the president. Under Polish procedure, the president may initiate the revocation of an award, but the corresponding act requires the countersignature (co-signature) of the Polish prime minister.

In response to the Polish president’s actions, Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga stated that he would return his state award to Poland.

Dnipro Mayor Boris Filatov reacted to Polish President Karol Nawrocki’s decision to revoke Poland’s highest state award, the Order of the White Eagle, from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He called the Polish leader a liar and a manipulator.

Oleg Tyahnybok, leader of the All-Ukrainian Union “Svoboda,” recalled the events in the village of Sahryn—now a village in Poland’s Lublin Voivodeship—where between 600 and 1,240 Ukrainians were killed and tortured in March 1944.
