Ukraine's ambassador to Cyprus is being recalled due to a scandal

Serhiy Nizhynskyi, Ukraine’s ambassador to Cyprus, announced his resignation and accused the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of allegedly demanding that he carry out decisions contrary to the law. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called these allegations baseless.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that on June 10, Minister Andriy Sibiga submitted a request to the president to recall Nizhynsky from his post. The ministry emphasized that the diplomat was already in the process of being recalled when news of his “resignation” appeared in the media.

According to the ministry, the decision was based on a lack of significant results, passivity in performing duties, and the creation of reputational risks for Ukraine during Cyprus’s EU presidency.

The Foreign Ministry also noted that the accusations against the leadership made public by Nizhynsky are untrue and manipulative in nature.
