Rubio will attend the G7 foreign ministers' meeting in France
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit the French city of Cerne-la-Ville on March 27, 2026, to participate in a ministerial meeting of the Group of Seven.
According to Deputy State Department Spokesperson Tommy Pigott, the visit aims to advance key U.S. interests through multilateral diplomacy, Ukrinform reports. The main topics of discussion will include the war between Russia and Ukraine, the current situation in the Middle East, and broader threats to global peace and stability.
It is expected that during the event, the U.S. side will brief G7 partners on the details of recent joint U.S.-Israeli operations, particularly in Iran. Diplomats will pay special attention to coordinating efforts to deter Russian aggression and support Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid ongoing shelling of civilian infrastructure. Participants will also discuss energy security and the degradation of the military capabilities of regimes that support terrorism worldwide.
Rubio’s trip comes amid an escalating international situation, including massive Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities and cyber threats to Western countries. Participants in the meeting in Sernes-la-Ville plan to develop joint mechanisms to respond to these challenges to ensure sustainable development and security in the region. Earlier, the State Department emphasized the importance of G7 unity in holding Russia accountable for war crimes and the destruction of the international legal order.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio officially denied media reports regarding the Trump administration’s attempts to persuade Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel to resign.
Beijing will also temporarily lift restrictions on Marco Rubio to allow him to participate in Trump’s visit.
