Sánchez rejected the opposition's demands for his resignation and early elections

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has publicly refused to resign or call early elections, despite pressure from the opposition and a wave of political scandals in the country. In parliament, he stated that the government would serve out its term as stipulated by the Constitution, and that the decision on elections would be made not by the opposition, but by the Spanish people.

The parliamentary debate turned into a fierce political clash with mutual accusations of corruption and insults exchanged between the parties.

According to EFE, during a speech in parliament, Sánchez and the leader of the opposition People’s Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, engaged in a heated argument featuring mutual accusations and political attacks. The opposition demanded the prime minister’s resignation over a series of corruption scandals within the ruling Socialist Party, but Sánchez categorically rejected these demands. “I acknowledge my mistakes, but I do not accept the opposition’s level of hypocrisy,” the prime minister stated, pointing to corruption cases within the People’s Party itself.

Opposition leader Feijó, for his part, did not hold back on harsh rhetoric and accused the prime minister of serious political misconduct. He claimed that Sánchez could go down in history as “the instigator, financier, and beneficiary of the most serious corruption case,” and also called the government a “mini-Gestapo.” Such statements further inflamed the political atmosphere in the parliamentary chamber, where the discussion quickly escalated into open conflict.

Pedro Sánchez emphasized that he has no intention of ending his term early and plans to adhere to the constitutional schedule. “Continue your opposition, because we will continue to govern for as long as the Spanish people allow,” he said in response to pressure from his opponents.

The Socialist Party, led by Sánchez, has been under pressure in recent months due to a series of corruption investigations that have posed a serious challenge to the government. Despite this, the prime minister is demonstrating his intention to hold on to power and continue his political course, while the opposition is intensifying its demands for his resignation.
