The daughter-in-law of People's Deputy Valeriy Zub was killed during a Russian strike on an exhibition in the Kyiv region
Kateryna Shalupnya, an employee of the Secretariat of the Ukrainian Association of District and Regional Councils, was killed on July 24 as a result of a Russian missile strike on a defense products exhibition in the Kyiv region. Her husband, who is currently serving on the front lines, learned of his wife’s death while on duty. Kateryna Shalupnya was the daughter-in-law of Ukrainian People’s Deputy Valeriy Zub.
“The war continues to deal the most terrible and painful blows, taking the best of us away. Indescribable pain pierces the hearts of each of us: as a result of the Russian Federation’s hostile attack, a member of the UAROR Secretariat team has been killed—our colleague, a radiant person and a true professional, Kateryna Shalupnya, head of the Association’s Secretariat’s legal department,” the association stated.
The UAROR emphasized: “For us, Kateryna will forever remain not just the driving force and reliable pillar of the UAROR Secretariat team. She was the true embodiment of the young generation of Ukrainians—educated, responsible, deeply compassionate, and professional specialists who are building the future of our country every day. Kateryna was a wonderful mentor, a model of dedication to her work, and a person with a huge heart.”
Maria Mezentseva, head of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE, noted that Kateryna was also a member of the Kharkiv regional team and the international policy division, highlighting her high level of effectiveness and sincere patriotism. According to the MP, members of parliament are already drafting a formal appeal to identify all those responsible and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Ukrainian MP Valeriy Zub also reported on the death of his daughter-in-law. According to him, Kateryna’s husband learned of his wife’s death while he was on the front lines in a dugout.
The lawmaker emphasized that Kateryna had been sent to an event organized by “Armada,” an association of unmanned systems manufacturers, and expressed outrage over the event’s security and organization.
“Her son learned of her death while he was at his post—in a dugout. While he is defending all of us here in the rear, we were unable to protect his wife. Katya was sent to an event organized by the “Armada” Association of Unmanned Systems Manufacturers. Why was she—the head of the legal department of the UAROR Secretariat—sent there? This is a question to which we will definitely get an answer. Russia is to blame for our family’s grief. But war cannot be an excuse for human negligence, overconfidence, or the desire to stage a high-profile PR stunt,” wrote Valery Zub.
The MP added that he has already appealed to the president and law enforcement agencies, and his call for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the organization of the event has been supported by nearly one hundred members of parliament.
The funeral service for Kateryna Shalupnya will take place today, July 27, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral in Kyiv. Afterward, she will be laid to rest in Chernihiv, where the burial will take place.
