In Kyiv, cleanup efforts at Lake Kyrylivske are in their fourth week following the Russian attack

In Kyiv, efforts are underway for the fourth consecutive week to clean up the pollution in Lake Kyrylivske, which occurred following a massive Russian attack on July 2. Specialists from the municipal enterprise “Pleso” are cleaning the lake and the surrounding area and conducting ongoing environmental monitoring.

The Kyiv City State Administration’s Department of Environmental Protection noted that a sorbent boom has been reinstalled near the spill site, and a Mobitrac amphibious vehicle is being used to cut and collect reeds that have absorbed oil products into special containers. Over the course of four weeks, 640 square meters of contaminated vegetation were removed, and 77 cubic meters of organic waste were collected.

In addition to the cleanup, municipal workers, together with scientists from the Institute of Hydrobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, are collecting samples of water, soil, and deep-seated sediment to assess the damage to the ecosystem. The “UkrChemAnalysis” laboratory is determining the hazard class of the waste to ensure its safe disposal, while the State Environmental Inspection of the Kyiv Metropolitan District continues to calculate the damage caused to the environment.

This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.

Earlier, it was reported that work is ongoing in Kyiv to clean up the pollution of Lake Kyrylivske caused by petroleum products following a massive Russian attack on July 2. Specialists have been cleaning the lake for the second week in a row and have used over 500 kilograms of a special sorbent.

More than 300 cubic meters of the contaminant were successfully removed from the lake’s surface. The work was carried out by about 60 rescue workers using specialized equipment.
