Shakhtar has signed a contract with Venezuelan winger Gleyker Mendoza
Donetsk's Shakhtar has officially announced the signing of left winger Gleyker Mendoza from Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih. The 24-year-old Venezuelan midfielder, who made a name for himself with a historic four-goal performance against Kyiv's Dynamo, has signed a long-term contract with the Miners.
This was reported on the Donetsk club’s official website.
The player’s new contract with the “Orange-and-Blacks” is for five years—until June 30, 2031. The transfer was a logical step following his standout performances in the Ukrainian Premier League, where he has represented the Kryvyi Rih team for the past one and a half seasons.
Gleiker Mendoza began his professional career at the Venezuelan club "Angostura" from the city of Ciudad Bolívar, making his debut for the first team in 2023. Later, in 2024, he played on loan for Deportivo Táchira, with whom he won the Venezuelan championship title. The winger joined Kryvbas in February 2025 and quickly became one of the leaders of the attack, demonstrating high productivity. In total, the player has appeared in 33 official matches for Kryvbas, scoring 12 goals and providing 12 assists. Additionally, in early 2025, Mendoza made his debut for the Venezuelan national team, for which he has currently played in 7 matches.
Donetsk’s Shakhtar has officially secured a spot in the group stage of the 2026/27 Champions League. This was made possible by winning the Ukrainian championship title and the club’s high ranking in the UEFA coefficient table.
Earlier, Shakhtar claimed both awards in the 26th round of the UPL.
