Star Trek puppet episode receives positive reviews
Space.com gave a positive review of the new episode of the series *Star Trek: Strange New Worlds*—*Level-Five Transporter Accident*—in which the characters of the *Enterprise* crew appear as puppets. Specialists from the Jim Henson Company worked on the puppet versions of the characters.
According to the plot, Scotty’s experiments with the transporter and the Little Ricky family puppet lead to the crew members being transformed into creatures made of fabric and stuffing. At the same time, the reviewer notes that the episode hardly aligns with Star Trek logic and canon, and the series’ writers hint that these events might have taken place in Spock’s imagination.
The reviewer called the episode one of the funniest in the franchise. He highlighted the puppet design, which combines the characters’ traits with a style reminiscent of the characters from *The Muppet Show*. Among the examples cited by Space.com were Captain Pike’s hairstyle and the perpetually worried expression of the puppet Scotty.

Actor Anson Mount, who plays Pike, told SFX magazine that the voice scenes were recorded twice because the first take didn’t work out. According to him, the producers asked the actors to make their performances more emotional, and he himself had to rely on cues from the puppeteers.
The action takes place on the familiar Enterprise sets, which aren’t adapted for puppet characters: the chairs are too big for them, and it’s difficult to operate the touch panels with puppet hands. In the story, the crew faces off against the Orions, and the storyline involving Spock and his relationship with T’Pring unfolds.
New episodes of *Star Trek: Strange New Worlds* premiere on Paramount+ every Thursday.
