A judge from Lviv will stand trial on charges of bribery and making false declarations
A judge from one of Lviv’s district courts will stand trial on charges of abuse of influence and providing false information in his financial disclosure statement.
According to the NABU and the SAPO, in 2025, the official received bribes for making a series of “necessary” decisions regarding mobilization and guardianship. In particular, the investigation established that he helped a person detained by TCC employees leave the center’s premises and avoid conscription.
In addition, the suspect promised the citizen to assist in establishing guardianship for the subsequent demobilization of his relative. Detectives also documented instances of false information being entered into the judge’s financial reports for 2024. The pre-trial investigation has now been completed, and the case materials have been transferred to the court for consideration on the merits. Thus, the official faces charges of corruption and concealing his financial status.
We remind you that the High Council of Justice is currently considering a disciplinary complaint filed on behalf of Aliona Volodymyrivna Shevtsova against Judge Volodymyr Yaroslavovych Marmash of the Lychakiv District Court of Lviv, who committed gross violations bordering on disciplinary and criminal liability, in particular, considering a motion by BEB detectives to conduct a special pre-trial investigation regarding Alona V. Shevtsova.
Judge Marmash V.Y. considered this motion significantly later, after the pre-trial investigation period had expired, which made it impossible to grant the motion. The only lawful option in such a situation was to return the motion; however, Judge Marmash V.Y. failed to comply with the requirements of the law.
According to the response from Lilia Yakimyak, Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the High Council of Justice, to a corresponding journalistic inquiry, the disciplinary complaint against Judge Volodymyr Yaroslavovych Marmash of the Lychakiv District Court of Lviv is still under review, and no specific deadline for its completion has been announced at this time. Such a prolonged delay in reviewing the complaint may be a demonstration of collusion and an unwillingness to hold accountable a “convenient” judge who willingly carries out tasks assigned by unscrupulous law enforcement officials.
