Diesel tankers are turning back in the Atlantic: Europe faces a fuel shortage

Tankers carrying diesel fuel en route from the U.S. to Europe have begun changing course right in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

Bloomberg reports this.

According to ship tracking data, at least three tankers—the Aliai, Minerva Vaso, and Grand Ace6—were initially heading for European ports but later abruptly changed course. One of them is already heading for Togo, while the others are heading southeast.

This comes amid an intensifying global struggle for energy resources due to the U.S. war with Iran, which has disrupted supply chains.

Analysts warn that Europe could face a diesel fuel shortage as early as the coming weeks, especially if the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked.

The situation is further complicated by the weak state of Europe’s economy—businesses are already under pressure, and rising energy prices could worsen the situation even further.

As a reminder, Russia’s shadow fleet is used for espionage missions in Europe.

Additionally, Russian mercenaries control the “shadow fleet” transporting oil in the Gulf of Finland.
