Trump ruled out the possibility of Canada joining the United States — The Telegraph

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he has no plans to make Canada the 51st state and assured that he has abandoned the idea of invading the northern neighbor.

This was reported by The Telegraph.

During a conversation with royal biographer Robert Hardman, the American leader emphasized that he respects the historical identity of the Canadian people.

Gardman, who is working on a new book about Queen Elizabeth II, urged the White House chief to “leave Canada alone.”

The author argued that any territorial claims could negatively impact relations with King Charles III ahead of his visit to the U.S.

“I think Canadians have 200 years of history and this whole ‘O Canada’ thing. You can’t sort that out in three and a half years. I don’t think it’s going to happen!” The Telegraph quoted the politician as saying.

The U.S. president also expressed doubts about whether Canadian society continues to fully recognize the British monarch as the head of their state.

Donald Trump did not hide his skepticism toward Canadian officials, accusing them of insincerity during personal interactions.

He noted that the political elites of the neighboring country often demonstrate double standards in their relations with Washington.

“They have terrible politicians. They smile in my face and then say bad things behind my back,” the U.S. president concluded, describing the complex dynamics of interaction with Ottawa.

As a reminder, Trump stated that the war with Iran could end soon.

Amid tense relations, Rutte will travel to the U.S. to meet with Trump.
