Hackers stole $3.4 billion in cryptocurrency in 2025 — most losses concentrated in three major incidents

In 2025, cybercriminals stole approximately $3.4 billion worth of cryptocurrency. Nearly 70% of these losses occurred in three major incidents, including the hacking of the Bybit exchange, which resulted in a $1.5 billion theft.

The main threat is posed by hackers from North Korea, who stole $2 billion worth of cryptocurrency in the past year. Since 2022, their total haul has reached $6.75 billion.

These figures highlight the increasing activity of North Korean cybercriminals and the growing scale of criminal attacks in the digital financial sector. Combatting such crimes is expected to remain a top priority for the global cryptocurrency industry.
