In March, border guards thwarted 75 attempts at bribery totaling more than 375,000 hryvnias
In March 2026, officers of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine recorded widespread attempts by citizens to offer bribes.
This was reported by the State Border Guard Service.
The total amount of bribes offered in a single month exceeded 375,000 hryvnias.
All instances of bribery were promptly stopped by law enforcement officers, and the relevant information was forwarded to the competent authorities.
The State Border Guard Service emphasizes zero tolerance for corruption among its personnel and border visitors.
One of the most telling cases occurred in the area of responsibility of the Mukachevo Border Guard Detachment.
There, a man attempted to bribe a military officer, offering him $1,000 for assistance in illegally leaving Ukraine.
“The border guard stopped the illegal actions, documented the offense, and notified the National Police,” the agency’s press center noted.
In addition to external factors, the internal security service is actively monitoring its own personnel for compliance with anti-corruption regulations. During March, five cases of potential violations of the law by border guards themselves were recorded.
Based on the results of internal investigations and investigative actions, four individuals have already been brought to criminal liability. The state continues to purge law enforcement agencies of dishonest employees as part of the reform.
As a reminder, border guards detained three men who were swimming toward Moldova.
Additionally, border guards in the Odesa region detained a fugitive on a motorcycle.
