A journalist from Suspilne has died in Chernivtsi
Lilia Vakariuk, a 38-year-old journalist for the “Suspilne Chernivtsi” TV channel, has died in Chernivtsi. Her death was reported by the editorial office. It is known that the journalist’s husband is considered missing in action.
"Lilia Vakariuk, a journalist for Suspilne Chernivtsi, has died. She was 38 years old. At Suspilne, Lilia produced stories about the families of missing and fallen soldiers. She recorded interviews with those released from captivity and those who are currently defending us on the front lines," the statement reads.
The TV channel noted that Lilia was originally from the Zastavna region. She graduated from the philology department with a major in journalism and in 2011 began working at the editorial office of the newspaper "Bukovynska Pravda," where she ran the crime news section.
She later began working at the regional state television and radio company as a news anchor and host of the program "Leaders of Quality." From 2020 to 2025, she served as the spokesperson for the Main Directorate of the National Police in Chernivtsi Oblast. Afterward, she worked as a journalist for Suspilne Chernivtsi.
In March 2023, Lilia’s husband, Oleksandr Lendel, a civilian, went missing in the Donetsk region. She continued searching for him all this time.
Lilia is survived by two sons and her parents. Suspilne expressed its sincere condolences to her family and everyone who knew her. The time and date of the funeral will be announced later.
