Snow fell in Greece in early May: the country was hit by an unusual cold snap
A few weeks before summer, Greece experienced an unusual weather phenomenon—a cold front brought snow to the country’s mountainous and semi-mountainous regions.
This was reported by GreekReporter.
According to meteorologists, daytime temperatures in the northern and central regions barely reached 12–14°C, which is atypical for early May.
In particular, significant snowfall was recorded on Mount Parnassus, where the snow cover at high altitudes reached 3–5 centimeters. Unusual precipitation was also observed in the Peloponnese, particularly in the mountainous areas of Corinthia.
In some places, snow even fell near Athens, which is a rare occurrence for this time of year. Spring landscapes have temporarily given way to winter scenes.
According to meteorologist Panagiotis Giannopoulos, this is the coldest start to May the country has seen in the last 70 years.

Forecasters expect the cold snap to be short-lived, and temperatures are expected to begin gradually rising in the near future, returning to normal spring conditions.
