In Kyiv, Ukraine's main flag will be flown at half-mast temporarily due to inclement weather
On August 18 in Kyiv, Ukraine’s national flag on the Pechersk Hills will be temporarily lowered due to deteriorating weather conditions. Thunderstorms, hail in some areas, and squalls are forecast for the capital.
According to the forecast by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, thunderstorms are expected in Kyiv on August 18, and in some areas, hail and wind gusts of up to 15–20 m/s are possible.
Due to the adverse weather conditions, the main flag of Ukraine will be temporarily lowered. Plans are in place to return it to its normal position once the weather improves.
The flagpole on which the flag is mounted is nearly 90 meters tall and weighs about 32 metric tons. The flag measures 16 by 24 meters.
Residents of the capital are urged to stay away from advertising structures, power lines, and large trees during severe weather. It is also recommended not to leave cars near potentially dangerous objects.
If trees or branches fall, Kyiv residents are advised to contact the “Kyivzelenbud” emergency dispatch service.
If there is a threat to life, call 101; if someone is injured, call 103.
