An explosion occurred at a hydroelectric power plant in Switzerland; there are injuries

In Switzerland, an explosion occurred at the “Ritom” hydroelectric power plant in Piotta, in the canton of Ticino, causing part of the building to collapse and leaving two people seriously injured.

The cause of the incident is currently unknown, but electrical problems in the transformer during pre-commissioning tests are being considered as a possible cause. A large-scale operation involving firefighters, police, and a Rega rescue helicopter is underway at the scene, and the power plant grounds have been cordoned off.

Investigators are currently determining whether the incident occurred at the old power plant or at the new facility, which is scheduled to begin operations in 2027.

This was reported by “20 Minuten.”

Thus, Germany is gradually restructuring its security system to address new threats. The plan focuses on protection against drones, critical infrastructure threats, cyberattacks, espionage, and sabotage. However, the proposed set of measures still needs to go through the necessary legislative and organizational procedures. In other words, this is a plan to strengthen security, not a statement that all these measures are already fully operational. Bild reports on the new measures.

Germany has donated a fire ladder truck and a truck equipped with a crane to the Kyiv Region Emergency Rescue Service.
