Lithuania cancels Dieter Bohlen concerts over “dream team” remarks about Russia
Lithuania has officially canceled the planned performances by German musician and former member of the legendary band Modern Talking, Dieter Bohlen.
The decision to remove posters and halt ticket sales was made following the artist’s controversial remarks regarding economic cooperation between Germany and Russia.
The 72-year-old performer was scheduled to perform with his band Blue System in Klaipėda on November 20 and in Kaunas the following day.
Currently, all information about the upcoming events has completely disappeared from the official websites of the concert venues and online ticket sales services.
Although the organizers have not provided detailed official explanations, the Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT directly links this move to the musician’s recent interview.
In it, Bolen expressed regret over the severing of energy ties with Moscow, which sparked a wave of outrage in the Baltic country.
In the interview, the artist noted: “Russia and Germany were, in essence, a dream team, because we had cheap energy, and things were going very well. From a purely economic standpoint, it was like this: one had one thing, the other had another.”
These remarks sparked a strong reaction from the public and cultural managers in Lithuania, which has consistently supported Ukraine.
The musician’s stance on “cheap energy” was perceived as a disregard for the political context and Russian aggression.
It is worth noting that after 2022, Dieter Bohlen formally condemned the full-scale war in Ukraine.
However, at the same time, he has repeatedly spoken out publicly against providing military aid and weapons to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
As a reminder, Lithuania reacted sharply to Russia’s nighttime attack on Ukraine.
