In the Rostov Region of the Russian Federation, drones attacked tankers in Taganrog Bay
The Rostov Region of Russia came under a massive drone attack on the night of July 8. As a result of the strikes in the Taganrog Gulf, two tankers were damaged, and two people are reported to have been injured.
According to a Russian official, both tankers were heading to Rostov-on-Don. The crew of one of the vessels had to be evacuated after it was damaged.
Two people sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident. Medical personnel treated one of the injured on the scene, while the other was taken to a hospital; however, both refused hospitalization.
Slyusar stated that the tankers were empty, so an oil spill was avoided.
At the same time, information regarding the extent of the damage and other consequences of the attack is currently being clarified.
According to the governor, Russian air defense forces allegedly destroyed about 70 drones.
According to him, the following areas were targeted:
- 11 districts of the Rostov Region;
- Novoshakhtinsk;
- Kamensk-Shakhtinsky;
- the waters of the Taganrog Gulf.
Despite statements about air defense operations, Russian authorities note that the threat of new drone attacks in the Rostov Region remains a concern.
This was stated by Yuriy Slyusar, governor of the Rostov Region.
In addition, on the night of July 8, attack drones of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck a military airfield in Borisoglebsk, Voronezh Oblast, Russia. This airbase is home to aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces, which are used for both combat and training missions.
Over the past day, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have reduced the Russian army’s strength by another 1,260 troops. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released updated data on enemy losses as of July 8, also reporting the destruction of a significant amount of enemy equipment.
