On July 8, the Ukrainian Air Force shot down a Russian Su-35 multi-role fighter in the eastern sector.

The unit reported that the downed Russian fighter jet crashed within the corps’ area of responsibility.

“A Russian Su-35 fighter jet is smoldering in the Third Army Corps’ area of responsibility!” the military stated, congratulating the Ukrainian Air Force on the successful destruction of the enemy aircraft.

The Su-35 is one of the most advanced multi-role fighters in service with the Russian military. The aircraft is designed for:

  • intercepting and destroying air targets at long and short ranges;
  • striking ground and surface targets;
  • carrying out a wide range of combat missions.

Development of the fighter began back in the 1980s, and the aircraft subsequently became one of the key elements of Russian tactical aviation.

Main specifications of the Su-35

  • Length — 21.9 m;
  • Wingspan — 14.7 m;
  • height — 5.9 m;
  • Maximum speed — up to 2,500 km/h;
  • range — up to 3,600 km;
  • payload — up to 8 metric tons;
  • engines — turbojet engines with afterburner and thrust vectoring;
  • service life — approximately 6,000 hours;
  • crew—one pilot.

The destruction of the Su-35 marked yet another significant loss for the Russian combat aviation.

As a reminder, earlier, on July 3, Ukrainian drones operated by the Security Service of Ukraine carried out a massive attack on military facilities in the temporarily occupied Crimea. The airfields in Saki and Gvardeyskoye, which Russian troops use as air bases, were targeted in those strikes.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported the destruction of a Russian combat aircraft. According to preliminary information, it was a Su-34 fighter-bomber, which Russian troops actively use to strike positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and frontline cities.

As a reminder, on the night of July 8, attack drones of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck a military airfield in Borisoglebsk, Voronezh Oblast, Russia

The Ukrainian Armed Forces may have used new American missiles to strike the plant in Voronezh.
