The suspect in the Monaco assassination attempt entered Ukraine legally, according to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) stated that Ukrainian citizen Anastasia Berezovska, who is suspected of attempting to assassinate businessman Vadym Yermolayev in Monaco, crossed the Ukrainian border legally. At the time of her entry, there was no information in the relevant databases regarding an international warrant for her arrest.
The agency emphasized that on July 1, 2026, there were no legal grounds for denying the citizen entry.
“In response to numerous inquiries from the media and the public, we are issuing this official statement. The suspect in a high-profile crime in the Principality of Monaco entered Ukraine legally through one of the border crossing points,” the State Border Guard Service noted.
The Border Guard Service clarified that during the border control process, there were no hits in international databases, including Interpol.
“During her border control check, there were no database hits—including from Interpol—indicating that she was wanted,” the border guards reported.
The State Border Guard Service also noted that all Ukrainian border crossing points are connected to the Interpol database, which allows for the immediate verification of individuals, vehicles, and documents that are subject to an international search at the time of crossing the state border.
The agency emphasized that border guards act strictly within the framework of Ukraine’s current legislation.
“We emphasize that the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine operates on the basis of, within the limits of, and in the manner prescribed by the Constitution and the current legislation of Ukraine,” the statement reads.

While there, she communicated with a family and two men. The first is a former law enforcement officer, and the second is an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR). The surname of the detained GUR employee who confessed to the murder of Anastasia Berezovskaya is Reut, according to People’s Deputy Goncharenko.
Both suspects have been detained. A notice of suspicion is currently being prepared.
The attempt on Yermolayev’s life cost the masterminds $150,000. Of this amount, Berezovskaya herself received $8,000. Another $5,000 was spent on transportation costs. The funds were transferred to Berezovskaya’s crypto wallets and bank accounts.
At the same time, the name of the person who ordered the crime has not yet been disclosed. The detained GUR officer served in the 9th Intelligence Department, which specializes in drone strikes.
According to our information, Anastasia Berezovska agreed to carry out the contract killing on the condition of payment after the fact.
That is why, after committing the crime, she traveled to Ukraine to collect the promised funds. A few days later, she was found buried near Kyiv.
