Trump's administration is considering sanctions against countries that did not support the war against Iran - Reuters
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is discussing possible measures to pressure countries that did not provide assistance to Washington during the war against Iran.
Among the options is reducing the influence of certain countries within NATO.
This was reported by Reuters.
According to the agency, an internal Pentagon email outlines potential punishments for NATO allies that did not support U.S. operations in the war with Iran.
Possible punishments include suspending Spain’s membership in the alliance and revising the U.S. position on Britain’s claims to the Falkland Islands.
The policy options are detailed in a memo expressing disappointment at the reluctance or refusal of some allies to grant the United States access, basing, and overflight rights for the war in Iran.
According to an unnamed Pentagon official, the email noted that access to air bases is “an absolute baseline for NATO.” One of the options for restrictions also involves removal from important or prestigious positions within NATO.
"As President Trump said, despite everything the United States has done for our NATO allies, they have not stood with us," said Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson, commenting on the content of the email in response to journalists’ questions.
Trump responded to Prince Harry, who called on the U.S. to do more for Ukraine — Sky News.
As a reminder, Britain’s Prince Harry made his third visit to Ukraine—this time, the trip took place without an official announcement.
Prior to this, on the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion, Prince Harry recorded a video message to Ukrainians, in which he shared his impressions of his visits to Ukraine over the past year.
Prince Harry recently appeared on an episode of the American show “The Late Show,” where he performed in a comedy sketch in which he joked about U.S. President Donald Trump.
