Boris, the social media sensation, had his injured antler surgically removed following a car accident
Boris the deer, who has become a social media sensation, underwent an urgent and complex surgery to remove a damaged antler that had begun to threaten the animal’s eye following a traffic accident.
This was reported by the Wildlife Rescue Center.
The Center noted that after the accident, Boris’s antler began to grow abnormally and change direction, moving closer to his eye. Initially, specialists planned to postpone the procedure so that the animal could regain its strength before anesthesia.
However, the situation quickly worsened:
“While the distance from the antler to the eye was 6 mm when the deer was brought to the Center, it had shrunk to less than 1 mm within 5 days,” animal welfare activists reported.
Specialists were forced to decide on emergency surgery, despite the high risks due to the animal’s exhausted condition.
“We took this risk to save Boris’s life. It was one of the most difficult moments in recent times,” the Center emphasized.
Animal welfare activists explained that they were most concerned about the reaction to anesthesia, as the weakened body might not withstand the anesthesia.
It was also noted that such surgeries are usually accompanied by significant bleeding, which is difficult to stop.
However, according to the specialists, the surgery was a success—with almost no blood loss—and no bleeding has been observed since the procedure.
Boris faces a long rehabilitation process. In addition to recovering from the surgery, the animal also requires treatment for related health issues.
Boris, the star of the Rivne Polissya region, was involved in a traffic accident for the second time in two months while being transported to Kyiv for treatment. According to preliminary data from May 7, a passenger car crashed into the special vehicle; the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel.
Earlier in the Rivne region, the famous deer Boris was found after going missing.
It was previously known that Boris the deer was alive but had already lost a lot of blood. The animal has a head injury and a broken hind leg, making it difficult for him to move. Currently, treatment is being sought for Boris.
Boris the deer, who became famous on social media and lived among people in Zarichne in the Rivne region, was in serious condition following the accident.
