Delay in EU loan threatens Ukraine's preparations for winter — Zelenskyy
Ukraine may not have enough time to prepare for next winter due to the blocking of financial aid from the European Union.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to him, the issue concerns a €90 billion loan, of which €45 billion was supposed to arrive this year. These funds were specifically intended for the implementation of a large-scale plan to protect energy infrastructure and water supply systems.
“The biggest risks are related to preparing for winter… The plan is designed so that by winter we will have completed physical protection measures, as well as various air defense protection measures,” he noted.
Zelenskyy added that the regions have already prepared corresponding resilience plans, but due to a lack of funding, their implementation has not actually begun.
“Therefore, this delay poses a risk for the winter,” the president emphasized.
He also stressed that decisions on the allocation of funds must be made by EU leaders and called for the funding to be unblocked as soon as possible.
Von der Leyen assured that Ukraine will receive a loan from the EU.
