Zelenskyy held talks with the Syrian president: what was agreed upon

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa during his visit to Damascus on April 5. 

This was reported by the President’s official Telegram channel. 

The parties agreed to work together to strengthen security and expand development opportunities for both societies, paying particular attention to the prospects for stabilizing the situation in the region.

During the meeting, the leaders discussed the circumstances of Russia’s war against Ukraine, for which Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the Syrian side for its support. Particular interest was shown in the exchange of military and security expertise between the two countries. The issue of Ukraine’s role as a reliable food supplier and the possibility of strengthening food security in the Middle East was also raised.

Zelenskyy emphasized his understanding of the energy and infrastructure challenges currently facing Syria and expressed readiness to work together to enhance the capabilities of both nations. The meeting took place amid reports of Russian strikes on oil and gas facilities in Ukraine’s Poltava and Sumy regions, underscoring the importance of discussing energy resilience. The results of the talks are expected to serve as the foundation for further economic and security cooperation between the countries.

Prior to this, Zelenskyy visited Turkey, where he discussed current issues with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
