Zelenskyy called for putting an end to the issue of weapons for civilians
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated the need for a definitive resolution to the issue of legalizing firearms for civilians, describing the topic as extremely sensitive. The head of state emphasized that he agrees with public opinion and experts regarding the need to bring this debate to a close, despite the significant responsibility involved in such a step.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine.
Zelenskyy emphasized that any changes in this area are possible only through legislation. The president expressed his readiness to work together on the issue with parliamentarians and representatives of the relevant Verkhovna Rada committee. The main task for the executive branch and lawmakers is to develop a comprehensive vision that takes into account all risks and the demands of citizens.
Head of the Office of the President Kirill Budanov stated that free access to weapons for the civilian population does not provide real protection but only provokes new tragedies.
The Head of the National Police reported that Ukrainians possess over 1.16 million firearms. According to him, no crimes involving the use of weapons distributed to citizens at the start of the full-scale war have been recorded so far.
