Media: The 20th package of EU sanctions will not include a complete ban on Russian tankers
The European Union’s new, 20th package of sanctions will not include a complete ban on the provision of maritime services to Russian vessels transporting oil and petroleum products. As noted, this restriction was considered one of the strongest elements of the package, but it was not included in the final version.
Several EU diplomats familiar with the final content of the 20th sanctions package, which is currently in the process of being approved via a written procedure, informed a "EP" correspondent of this.
The 20th package of EU sanctions against Russia did not include the complete ban on maritime services for Russian tankers in the EU proposed by the European Commission.
A complete ban on the provision of maritime services in the European Union to Russian vessels transporting oil and petroleum products, as reported by EuroPravda’s sources, was not included in the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, as previously planned.
The document, which is currently in the process of being adopted via a written procedure, states that the initiative has generally been agreed upon and supported by EU member states but will not be implemented in practice until all G7 countries agree to the ban on maritime services for Russian tankers.
Instead, the 20th package includes, in particular, a ban on a range of maritime and financial services for tankers and icebreakers that transport liquefied natural gas from Russia.
It is also planned that Russian shipping companies will not be able to use liquefied gas terminals in Europe.
In addition, Russians will be prohibited from purchasing tankers in the EU—and European companies will not be allowed to resell tankers to Russians.
