Automotive giants are rolling out the Drive Hyperion platform to develop robotaxis
Tech giant NVIDIA has announced a major expansion of its partnerships with leading automakers, including BYD, Geely, Isuzu, and Nissan.
The companies are officially transitioning to the Drive Hyperion platform to develop Level 4 (L4) autonomous vehicles, which will allow cars to navigate cities without human intervention.
The standardization of Drive Hyperion, based on the NVIDIA Halos OS safety architecture, allows partners to significantly accelerate system validation cycles.
The use of a unified architecture integrates computing, sensors, and networking systems, enabling rapid fleet training and efficient global scaling of technologies.
Currently, BYD, Geely, and Nissan are actively developing Level 4 autonomous passenger cars capable of operating in robotaxi mode.
Meanwhile, Isuzu, in collaboration with TIER IV, has focused on developing fully autonomous buses for public transportation.
In addition, NVIDIA has announced an expansion of its collaboration with South Korean giants Hyundai and Kia to develop next-generation systems.
Hyundai plans to integrate these technologies to support a wide range of autonomous systems—from basic driver assistance to complex Motional services.
“The future of mobility will be built on artificial intelligence and software,” emphasized Rishi Dhall, vice president of the automotive industry at NVIDIA.
He noted that combining Hyundai’s engineering leadership with AI computing power will enable the creation of safe and intelligent driving systems.
Another important step was the introduction of Alpamayo 1.5—an updated portfolio of open-source models and frameworks for simulating autonomous systems.
This update enables artificial intelligence to process video data and navigation prompts in natural language to generate safe driving trajectories.
Thanks to new algorithms, the systems are capable not only of selecting a route but also of providing a logical justification for their maneuvers.
This makes the autonomous driving process more transparent for users and regulators, increasing overall trust in artificial intelligence technologies on the roads.
The Drive Hyperion platform has already established itself among developers as a reliable tool used by companies such as Uber.
Thanks to new agreements, the number of autonomous vehicles based on NVIDIA solutions in the world’s largest cities could grow exponentially in the coming years.
As a reminder, BYD is considering entering Formula 1 to promote the brand internationally.
