Michael Jordan’s Ferrari sold at auction for $2.7 million — Motor1
A 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello that belonged to Michael Jordan was sold at auction for $2.7 million. It is the most expensive example of this model ever sold at a public auction, Motor1 reports.
Bidding lasted two weeks and ended on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). A total of 43 bids were placed for the car. Before the auction, the Joopiter platform estimated the lot at $800,000 to $1.3 million, but the final price was more than twice the upper estimate.
Record price for the model
According to Joopiter, the result was more than four times higher than the previous auction record for a Ferrari 550 Maranello. The company did not disclose the amount of the previous record. The sale also became Joopiter’s first auction held together with Curated, a dealer of collectible and vintage supercars.
For Joopiter, the deal marked its debut in the collectible car market: previously, the platform worked with sports memorabilia, natural-history and cultural artifacts.

Jordan’s car
Ferrari delivered this car to Jordan in May 1997. The coupe is finished in Rosso Barchetta, has a light brown leather interior and an Illinois license plate reading “MJ 5.” In June 1997, Jordan was photographed driving the car several hours after winning his fifth NBA championship title.
In 2002, Jordan sold the Ferrari, after which the car did not appear in public for more than two decades. Curated CEO John Temerian, according to the publication, spent about ten years searching for the car. The Curated team traced it through historical Ferrari dealer records and found it with a longtime owner in California, who had never previously offered the car for public sale.
Temerian bought the car without inspecting it in person. On May 29, 2026, the Ferrari was returned to Chicago — exactly 29 years after its original delivery to Jordan.
