On June 8, the State Customs Service of Ukraine launched a new phase of inspections for the import of used vehicles from abroad. As part of this pilot project, approximately 50% of all customs declarations for such vehicles will be subject to additional inspection.
Customs officials will pay particular attention to vehicles imported under preferential trade regimes and tariff preferences, particularly from European Union countries.
During inspections, specialists will analyze the legality of the use of preferential treatment, as well as the compliance of the submitted documents with the actual characteristics and value of the vehicle.
The State Customs Service emphasizes that the selection of vehicles for additional inspection will be carried out automatically using an electronic risk management system. This is intended to minimize the influence of human error and reduce corruption risks.
For importers, the new rules mean the need to carefully prepare documents, including proof of payment, purchase and sale agreements, and extracts from foreign registries.
The pilot project will run until December 31, 2026. The Customs Service expects it to help make the car import market more transparent and reduce the number of customs violations.
