Mitsubishi to unveil the fifth-generation Pajero on September 2, 2026
Mitsubishi will hold the world premiere of the fifth-generation Pajero on September 2, 2026. The SUV will receive a body-on-frame chassis and the Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, Motor1 reports.
Body-on-frame chassis and S-AWC
The new Pajero will be built using a body-on-frame layout, meaning it will have a frame chassis. This distinguishes it from the previous model, which had a unibody construction. Mitsubishi has also confirmed the use of the S-AWC system, which controls torque distribution, braking and vehicle stabilization on hard and loose surfaces.
This system is already used in the Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck. According to regional media, S-AWC in the Pajero may be combined with the Super Select 4WD-II transfer case. Such a configuration could potentially allow drivers to select two-wheel-drive, full-time all-wheel-drive and low-range modes. However, Mitsubishi has not officially confirmed this combination for the new Pajero.

Hybrid versions and possible modifications
The company has hinted at hybrid versions of the model but has not yet disclosed information about engines, battery capacity, range or specific powertrains. Motor1 notes that, due to its relationship with the Triton, a diesel-based hybrid system rather than a plug-in hybrid powertrain is expected. This is an assumption, not a confirmed vehicle specification.
The manufacturer has also not released dimensions, trim levels or images of the interior. Design teasers and leaks indicate that the Pajero may receive different front-end styling for different markets.
Earlier, information also emerged about a possible Pajero Ralliart off-road modification. In North America, the model could potentially be sold under the Montero name, although no final decision has been made. Motor1 also reports possible smaller kei-class Pajero models with hybrid technologies, planned approximately for 2028–2030.
