Porsche to bring back gasoline-powered Macan in 2028 — Motor1
Porsche plans to bring back a gasoline-powered version of the Macan crossover in 2028, which will be sold alongside the electric model. The company’s CEO Michael Leiters said this in an interview, Motor1 reports.
According to Leiters, the company is not abandoning electric vehicles, but seeks to maintain a balanced lineup of cars with internal combustion engines and electric powertrains. He noted that Porsche must avoid double investment in gasoline and electric models within the same segment.
Sales and cuts
In the first half of the year, sales of the electric Macan fell by 40% year on year, while Porsche deliveries to China declined by 32%. The company’s operating margin in 2022 was 1.1%.

Electric 718 and gasoline-powered 911
At the same time, Porsche continues to develop a fully electric 718 sports car and intends to use Volkswagen Group technologies to develop electric models. Leiters confirmed that there will be no fully electric version of the Porsche 911.
The current 911 Carrera GTS already has a hybrid powertrain in which the internal combustion engine operates with electric assistance. The company also does not plan to release a plug-in hybrid for this model.
