Tesla postpones new Roadster presentation in the US due to bad weather — TechCrunch

Tesla has postponed the presentation of the updated second-generation Roadster in Waco, Texas, US, from October 1 to October 15 due to a forecast of adverse weather conditions. The company said the event can only be held outdoors.

Reason for the postponement

In a post on X, Tesla said it had been monitoring the forecast together with local meteorologists. Due to expected difficult weather conditions and the inability to hold the presentation indoors, the company decided to change the date of the event.

As TechCrunch reports, the need for an outdoor venue may be related to Tesla's work on integrating SpaceX gas thrusters into the Roadster. According to the publication's assumption, they are intended to enable the car to fly in some form.

Project history

Tesla first showed the concept of the second-generation Roadster in 2017 during an event where it also unveiled the Semi electric truck. The company said at the time that the new sports car would appear in a few years. The first Roadster, which launched Tesla in the early 2010s, was largely based on the Lotus Elise.

The estimated base price of the new Roadster was about $200,000. Tesla accepted $50,000 deposits, while reserving one of the thousand Founders Series versions cost $250,000.

The model's presentation has been postponed repeatedly. Elon Musk previously said that a year or more could pass between the Roadster's official unveiling and the start of its production.
