Geely launches Coolray crossover in South Africa in three trims — TimesLIVE

Geely has started sales of the Coolray crossover in the Republic of South Africa. The model is available in three trims — Nova, Vanguard and Vertex. According to TimesLIVE, the vehicle is offered as a competitor to the Omoda C5, Haval Jolion Pro and Volkswagen T-Cross in the compact family SUV segment.

Technical specifications

The Coolray is 4,380 mm long, has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm and ground clearance of 161 mm. The cabin is designed for five passengers, while boot capacity is 330 litres and increases to 1,054 litres with the rear seats folded.

All versions are equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 128 kW and 290 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automated transmission and sends power to the front wheels. The claimed acceleration time to 100 km/h is 7.6 seconds, top speed is 200 km/h, and average fuel consumption is 6.5 litres per 100 km.

Equipment and safety

The crossover received a 14.6-inch central touchscreen and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. The listed equipment includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, wireless charging, power-adjustable seats, a panoramic roof and a power tailgate.

The Vanguard and Vertex trims feature a 540-degree surround-view system. The safety systems include ABS, EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-start and hill-descent assistance, and tyre-pressure monitoring. The Vanguard and Vertex versions also have six airbags.

The publication notes that the Coolray is effectively an updated version of the Proton X50 under the Geely brand. Combined Motor Holdings stopped importing Proton vehicles to South Africa after low sales. Prices for the Geely Coolray in the country start at 369,900 rand for the Nova and reach 429,900 rand for the Vertex.
